Nyali MP Mohamed Ali launches new police station to enhance security
By Mishi Gongo |
Nyali Member of Parliament Mohamed Ali, also known as Jicho Pevu, launched a new police station in Khadija, Frere Town ward, as part of a broader initiative to enhance security across the Nyali sub-county in Mombasa County.
The move addresses rising concerns over crime, including theft, drug trafficking, and violent attacks by machete-wielding gangs.

MP Mohamed is decentralising security by establishing four new police stations in strategic locations: Frere Town, Mbungoni, Ziwa la Ng'ombe, and Kadzandani.
Khadija Police Station will help curb criminal groups that operate between the Nyali and Kisauni sub-counties.
During the launch event for the Khadija police station, Ali emphasised the urgent need for these facilities.
"We've brought these police stations closer to the grassroots to ensure the safety and security of our residents. The new stations will help us tackle the rampant issue of crime and provide a more effective response. It makes no sense to have only one police station serving a sub-county with around 300,000 people," Mohamed said.
Each of the new stations is equipped with three distinct cells: one for women, one for missing children, and one for men. The facilities are also designed to provide temporary care for neglected children until they can be placed in a permanent home or reunited with their families.
Local residents have welcomed the new police stations, expressing hope that they will lead to improved safety and stability in their neighbourhoods.
Pauline Wambua, a resident of Nyali, shared her thoughts on the development. "We hope that with this new police station, security will improve, especially for women who face dangers when darkness falls," Wambua said.
Kamal Rashid, another local business owner, also voiced optimism about the impact of the new stations, saying, "We believe that with increased security, our businesses will thrive, and we will be able to work without fear."
In addition to addressing security concerns, MP Ali used the occasion to urge residents to engage in constructive politics.
"We need leaders who will drive development and empower the youth. Choose leaders based on their ability to bring progress, not on political affiliation, tribe, or religion," Ali advised.
The MP also addressed critics who have questioned his leadership due to his non-coastal origins.
"I am committed to serving all residents of Nyali, regardless of where I come from. Let us engage in constructive politics that benefit our country and ignore those who seek to divide us," Ali added.
The establishment of new police stations is a critical step towards addressing Nyali residents' security challenges and fostering a safer, more secure community.
