TSC announces over 45,000 teaching and internship vacancies

The combined recruitments offer over 45,000 positions, including over 21,000 teaching and leadership vacancies and 24,000 internship roles for junior school teachers.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has launched two significant recruitment initiatives to address teacher shortages and strengthen education delivery nationwide.

The combined recruitments offer over 45,000 positions, including over 21,000 teaching and leadership vacancies and 24,000 internship roles for junior school teachers.

Both processes aim to support Kenya’s education sector, including the ongoing implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

The Commission has announced 21,313 vacancies covering teaching, leadership, and curriculum support posts in regular schools, special needs education institutions and teacher training colleges (TTCs).

These vacancies reflect the diverse needs of the education sector, focusing on career progression and capacity building.

Leadership positions available include 99 chief principals and 490 senior principals in regular schools, as well as six chief principals and six senior principals posts in TTCs.

The role of Principal has 674 vacancies in regular schools and two in special needs institutions. Deputy Principal II and III positions total 990 and 847, respectively, in regular schools, with additional posts in TTCs and special needs schools.

Academic teaching roles include senior lecturer positions at TTCs across four levels, senior masters posts in regular and special needs schools, and senior teacher I and II roles. Secondary teacher I vacancies (requiring diploma level qualifications) stand at 994 in regular schools.

Curriculum Support Officers are also sought in significant numbers, with vacancies at senior and junior levels in both regular and special needs education.

Applicants must apply online via the TSC portal at www.teachersonline.go.ke before the midnight deadline on August 25, 2025.

Manual or paper applications will not be accepted. Selection will be merit-based and guided by county quotas, ensuring equitable distribution of teachers nationwide.

The Commission encourages persons with disabilities to apply, reaffirming its commitment to equal opportunity employment.

In a complementary drive, TSC has opened applications for 24,000 teacher internship positions focused on junior school teaching.

This internship programme is part of efforts to embed CBC across all counties by providing unemployed registered teachers with practical classroom experience.

Eligible applicants must be Kenyan citizens holding at least a diploma in education, have a minimum mean grade of C+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or equivalent, and must be registered with TSC.

Additionally, candidates must have no prior disciplinary record and must hold personal accident insurance covering the internship period.

The one-year internship offers hands-on teaching experience under mentorship and coaching, preparing interns for future permanent teaching roles.

Interns will be posted within the sub-county or county where teaching vacancies exist and will be assigned to teach various subjects within the junior school curriculum.

Although the internship is not a salaried position, interns will receive a monthly stipend of Sh20,000 after applicable deductions.

Applicants must submit their applications online through the TSC website or the teachersonline.tsc.go.ke portal by midnight on September 9, 2025.

The Commission strictly prohibits any recruitment fees and urges candidates to report any fraudulent activities to the authorities. Persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply under TSC’s equal opportunity policy.

For both recruitment exercises, candidates must apply online only; manual applications will not be accepted. During verification, applicants are required to present original academic certificates, registration documents, and identification cards.

The Commission will apply strict merit-based criteria and county quotas to guide the recruitment and placement of successful candidates.

The TSC recruitment drives aim to fill critical gaps in Kenya’s education sector, boost the implementation of CBC, and provide practical teaching experience to newly qualified teachers.

By recruiting teachers across all levels and regions, the Commission seeks to enhance education quality and ensure all learners have access to qualified educators.
