Man jailed for 35 years over robbery that claimed Greek national’s life

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives from the Kilimani division swiftly launched investigations, which led to a breakthrough six days later.
Justice has caught up with a 35-year-old man who was found guilty of participating in a deadly armed robbery that claimed the life of a Greek national in 2022.
Peter Waithaka Macharia, alongside two accomplices who remain at large, carried out the attack on October 15, 2022, along Menelik Road. The trio targeted Angelos Tsekilas, fatally shooting him in the chest before stealing valuables of unknown worth from him.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives from the Kilimani division swiftly launched investigations, which led to a breakthrough six days later.
“Investigation into the crime was swiftly launched by detectives drawn from DCI Kilimani, which led to a breakthrough on October 21, 2022, when Peter Waithaka Macharia was flushed out of his hideout in Gachie, Kiambu County,” the DCI said in a statement on X.
Following his arrest, Macharia was processed and formally charged in court.
“He was formally charged with robbery with violence under Section 296(2) of the Penal Code,” the DCI added.
After the prosecution presented its case, Macharia was convicted and sentenced to 35 years in prison.
The agency urged the public to work with law enforcement by providing information that could assist in maintaining security.
“We urge members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement efforts by sharing pertinent information that could assist in maintaining safety and justice, to our toll-free call centre,” the DCI added.
