Parliamentary Committee on Security visits Samburu to assess peace situation

The National Assembly Committee on Administration and Internal security visited Samburu County today to assess the security situation and hold a series of public rallies aimed at promoting peace in the North Rift region.

Led by Teso North Member of Parliament Oku Kunya the committee will today meet the Samburu County Security Committee headed by the County Commissioner Henry Wafula.

The committee are also expected to pay courtesy call on the Samburu Governor Jonathan Lati Leleliit before a security meeting at Lolmlog and a visit to Longewan ASTU camp.

In their 2 days visit the committee will engage members of the public at public rallies in the insecurity-prone areas of Longewan, Losuk, and Pura in Samburu West.

They will also visit Losuk Police Station and Pura multiagency Security Camp which were recently set to flush out bandits and cattle rustlers along the volatile Malaso belt in Samburu West.

According to the residents, the committee's presence will reveal the facts on the ground.

“Recently the security officers collected over 400 firearms in the area, though we feel the national government is not doing enough to stop the menace in the area” said one of the residents

The region was among the six counties in the North Rift the were under the dusk-to-dawn curfew.
