The President, who returned to Somalia on Friday, emphasised the strategic importance of Somalia's membership in the EAC, pointing out the potential gains through its coastal and land resources.
President Hassan Sheikh underlined the significance of engaging with a vast market of 300 million people, stretching from the Atlantic Ocean to the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea. He expressed optimism about the mutual benefits that would arise from this partnership, both for Somalia and the other member countries.

"Somalia and its people should embrace engagement with 300 million other people; our newfound market extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea. We stand to benefit immensely from these partnerships, and likewise, they will greatly benefit from us," said President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
President Hassan Sheikh also stressed that Somalia would now be part of other regional markets within the East African region. He urged the Somali people to carefully consider their choices for the betterment of the communities residing in the region.
Somalia's entry into the East African Community marks a historic milestone, symbolizing the nation's resilience and commitment to fostering regional cooperation and stability. As the eighth member of the EAC, Somalia's inclusion strengthens the regional bloc, capitalizing on the country's advantageous geographical position and untapped economic opportunities.
