Over 40,000 Mombasa students to benefit from Sh200m bursary programme

Governor Abdulswamad Nassir said the programme will see every student in day schools receive Sh5,000.

Mombasa County Governor Abdulswamad Nassir on Monday launched the 'No Child Left Behind' bursary programme to all the day schools in Mombasa County.

The programme which was launched at Mtopanga Secondary School in Kisauni, will see every student in day schools who comes from Mombasa County receive Sh5,000.

This is after the County Government of Mombasa set aside Sh200 million for the programme that will benefit more than 40,000 students.

The launch followed a meeting he convened with head teachers from all public and private day secondary schools, led by Chairman Peter Watoro.

Governor Abdulswamad said the move was a result of the demand for school bursaries amid challenging economic conditions impacting the community.

"Every child in everyday school in Mombasa County is entitled to be given that particular bursary on the auspices of no child should be left behind," he said.

"Every school in Mombasa should pick the forms. We will allow you (students) three days to take the forms home for your parents to fill in. They should be returned on Thursday, Friday and Saturday so that by next week the process of making payments to your schools can begin."
