Mandera County prioritises education, hires 440 ECDE teachers

Yesterday, Mandera Governor Mohamed Khalif announced a major step towards strengthening the county's Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) sector. Addressing ECDE field officers who had recently completed a 3-day training session, Khalif unveiled a two-pronged approach: recruiting 440 new teachers and implementing a school feeding program.

"Education is a cornerstone of my administration," declared Khalif. "We are committed to elevating service delivery in this crucial sector and ensuring our youngest learners have the best possible start."

The recruitment drive aims to address the existing shortage of ECDE teachers in Mandera, paving the way for expanded access to quality early education. Additionally, the school feeding program will not only enhance school retention but also support the overall well-being of students.

Khalif further reaffirmed his commitment to creating a conducive environment for learning. He assured the field officers of the timely provision of essential teaching and learning materials and called for a concerted effort to boost ECDE enrollment across the county.

The recently trained field officers, hailing from six sub-counties (Mandera East, Lafey, Mandera North, Ashabitto, Khalaliyo, and Arabia), will play a vital role in implementing these initiatives. During their 3-day training, they received a competency-based curriculum aligned with the latest reforms in the ECDE sector, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver impactful early childhood education.

Governor Khalif's announcement signifies a significant step towards enriching the lives of children in Mandera and investing in the county's future.
