Suspects in Ugandan athlete Kiplagat’s murder held for 21 days as investigations unfold

David Ekhai Lokere and Peter Ushuru Khalumi the main suspects in the killing of Kenyan-born Uganda athlete Edward Benjamin Kiplagat were brought before the Eldoret Law Courts in Uasin Gishu County on January 2, 2024, for a miscellaneous application related to the case.

The court ruled that the two suspects, David Ekhai Lokere and Peter Ushuru Khalumi, would be held at the Eldoret Police Station for a duration of 21 days while the police diligently conduct investigations into the heinous crime that has left the athletics community in shock.

The arrests of the two suspects took place in a coordinated effort, with one suspect apprehended in Uasin Gishu County and the other in Trans Nzoia County.
