Graduates in irrigated agriculture training ready to transform livelihoods in Turkana

A total of 23 trainees graduated today after completing a 5-month training program in irrigated agriculture at Labur in Turkana North. The training was sponsored by Furrows in the Desert (FID), an agricultural development project by the Lobur Catholic Mission.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony, Janerose Tioko, the county chief officer for Agriculture and Land Reclamation, emphasized that the graduates would play a leading role in sharing the acquired life skills in agriculture. Tioko commended the passion exhibited by the female students who embraced the opportunity to acquire farming skills, recognizing the significant impact on livelihoods.



Assuring FID officials, Tioko pledged the county's commitment to collaborating with the organization in capacity building for youth and women facing challenges induced by climate change. He urged the trainees to leverage the acquired skills and contribute to enhancing food security in the county.

In Samburu County, seven youth who completed a 6-month vocational training received starter packs today from the World Vision organization. Graduates from Maralal Vocational Training Center acquired technical skills to transform their economic livelihoods. World Vision also provided them with Sh30,000 as seed capital to kickstart ventures in motor vehicle mechanics, motorcycle repair, hair, and beauty therapy.
