FKF Premier League: Gor Mahia unbeaten, Sofapaka in relegation fight as action returns

By |

Fifth-placed Tusker FC hope to continue their outstanding form, coming off the back of a resounding 5-0 away win over seventh-placed KCB Football Club at the Police Sacco Stadium.

The Football Kenya Federation Premier League returns this weekend for the commencement of the second round of matches.

League leaders Gor Mahia are still unbeaten after closing the first leg with a narrow 1-0 victory over Posta Rangers. K’Ogalo comfortably leads the league with 37 points, having won 10 matches and drawn seven.

The perennial Kenyan champions host 13th-placed Kariobangi Sharks (18 points) on Saturday at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

The only other game sees Kakamega Homeboyz welcome Bandari Football Club at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County. Homeboyz are sixth on the log with 27 points, having lost three of their last five games. Mombasa-based Bandari are two places above them (4th) with 29 points, with three wins and two losses in their previous five games.

An epic clash awaits at the Ruaraka Stadium in Nairobi on Sunday as second-placed Nairobi City Stars host Posta Rangers. Nicholas Muyoti’s boys have secured five wins in their last five games, with 30 points, one above Posta.

Fifth-placed Tusker FC hope to continue their outstanding form, coming off the back of a resounding 5-0 away win over seventh-placed KCB Football Club at the Police Sacco Stadium. The Brewers welcome newly-coached Sofapaka at the Kenyatta Stadium.

Batoto ba Mungu, heavily in the relegation fight, have only 17 points after 17 games and hope coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno will inspire another win, reminiscent of the 3-0 home victory in their last fixture against Bidco United.

In other fixtures, a relegation scrap will ensue at the Sudi Stadium in Bungoma County when last-placed Nzoia United face struggling Shabana (17th). Separated by a point, both teams have only won three games, losing nine and 10, respectively.

Seventh-placed KCB visit Ulinzi Stars host KCB at the Ulinzi Sports Complex. The bankers are only two points off the top 4 (27 points), having won only once in their last five games. Ulinzi have lost three of their last five games, with only 17 points at 15th.

Both on 18 points, 12th-placed AFC Leopards visit Muhoroni Youth at the Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu.

In the weekend's final fixture, 10th-placed Murang’a Seal will tackle FC Talanta (11th) at the SportPesa Arena in Murang’a.
