Their journey begins today (Saturday) with two crucial matches — Samoa at 12:38 pm EAT, followed by a clash against Poland at 7:30 pm EAT.

The Kenya Lionesses are just hours away from a defining moment in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series in Cape Town, South Africa.

Drawn in Pool D alongside Poland and Samoa, the national women's sevens side will be aiming for a top-four finish in the overall standings to secure a place in the HSBC SVNS play-off tournament.

Their journey begins today with two crucial matches — Samoa at 12:38 pm East Africa Time (EAT), followed by a clash against Poland at 7:30 pm EAT.

Head coach Dennis Mwanja assembled a 12-player squad blending experience with emerging talent. Grace Okulu will captain the side, leading a team determined to make an impact.

Speaking during the squad announcement, Mwanja expressed confidence in his players, stating, "The girls have been working hard in training, and I am confident they will put in the work on the field. This is a talented and resilient group, and I believe they are ready for the task ahead."

Ahead of the tournament, the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports sent their best wishes to the team, posting on Twitter, "All the best to our Lionesses! Let's give it our all and push for the best results in this leg. Our ultimate goal is earning a spot in the HSBC Elite Series!"

The second round of the Challenger Series is set for 7th-8th March, where teams will continue to battle for ranking points. The top eight teams from the first two rounds will advance to the third and final round, scheduled for 11th-12th April in Kraków, Poland.

After this stage, the top four ranked teams will earn a spot in the HSBC SVNS play-off tournament in Los Angeles on 3rd-4th May, where they will compete for a place in the prestigious HSBC SVNS circuit.
