Boniface Ambani elected AFC Leopards chairman

Boniface Ambani, a former AFC Leopards striker, has been elected as the club’s new chairman after winning the 2025 polls. His appointment marks a new chapter for the club as fans hope for change after years of poor results and internal wrangles.

Former Kenyan international striker Boniface Ambani has been elected as the new chairman of AFC Leopards. Ambani, once a prolific forward for the club, won the 2025 elections with 1,101 votes, defeating his only challenger Evans Enos Mutoka, who received 682 votes.

His victory marks a return to the club in a different capacity, this time as a leader off the pitch. Ambani’s election comes at a time when AFC Leopards, one of Kenya’s most historic football clubs, is in need of stability and a clear path forward.

Ambani, who remains a fan favourite for his goal-scoring exploits during his playing days, has stayed involved in football through youth mentorship and development work. His 11-point manifesto, titled “The Starting XI,” outlines plans to improve youth structures, enhance financial accountability, develop modern training facilities, and bring professionalism to all areas of the club.

“This is a club I love deeply,” Ambani told supporters after his win. “We are not just changing leadership; we are reclaiming our pride.”

His campaign theme, “Take Back the Club,” appealed to supporters frustrated by years of poor results and internal wrangles. His election signals a desire among members for reform and a fresh start.

Ambani will lead a new team elected alongside him. Newton Lime Luchacha was voted in as treasurer with 676 votes, replacing Oliver Napali. In the Secretary General race, Isaac Mulanda Mulindi emerged victorious with 656 votes, ahead of Robert Situma (534) and Irine Wekesa Sitawa (529). He takes over from outgoing SG Caroline Walusaga.

Voting took place at four polling centres, with high turnout reflecting strong interest from club members.

Ambani now faces the task of translating campaign promises into action. Supporters are hopeful that under his leadership, the club can rebuild and compete strongly once again.
