Tusker FC releases nine players as squad reshuffle begins

Former Kenyan Premier League champions Tusker FC have confirmed the exit of nine players as they restructure ahead of next season.
Tusker FC has confirmed the departure of nine players as part of a squad overhaul ahead of the new FKF Premier League season. The Ruaraka-based club is making early moves in the transfer window, parting ways with several key figures whose contracts have come to an end.
Among those leaving the Brewers are John Byamukama, James Kibande, Luke Namanda, David Odoyo, Boban Zirintusa, Deogratious Ojok, Mike Oduor, and Lawrence Luvanda all released following the expiry of their contracts. Additionally, defender Yussuf Mainge will exit the club after completing his one-year loan stint from Kenya Police FC.

In an official statement, Tusker FC Chief Executive Officer Sam Nzau expressed the club’s appreciation for the departing players, acknowledging their impact and dedication during their tenure.
“We thank each of them for their service, commitment, and contributions during their time at Ruaraka. Their efforts have been integral to the team, both on and off the pitch, and they leave with our sincere gratitude,” Nzau said as seen by the club. “As they embark on the next chapter of their professional journeys, we wish them the very best in their future endeavors.”
One notable exit is that of Ugandan forward Deogratious Ojok, who joined Tusker in 2021 from BUL FC. He initially signed a two-year contract and later extended for another season, but the club has opted not to open talks for a renewal bringing his three-year spell with the team to an end.
The decision to release the players follows a turbulent season for Tusker FC, who finished fourth in the 2024/25 FKF Premier League. Despite a strong start, the Brewers struggled for consistency, managing 15 wins, 12 draws, and seven losses in 34 matches. They scored 41 goals and conceded 36, ending the campaign on 57 points, eight behind champions Kenya Police FC.
Their final five games summed up the mixed run of form, yielding just one win, two draws, and two defeats.
As the club prepares for a fresh challenge, more changes are expected in the coming weeks as Tusker looks to rebuild and reclaim its title-challenging form in the upcoming season.
