McCarthy has opted for a mix of experience and youth across all departments. The goalkeeping unit will feature Faruk Shikhalo, Sebastian Wekesa and the returning Byrne Omondi, whose experience is expected to add leadership to the squad.
The defence line will be anchored by experienced names such as captain Abud Omar, Siraj Mohammed, Alphonce Omija, Sylvester Owino, Michael Kibwage and Daniel Sakari. They will be joined by emerging talents including AFCON U20 graduate Manzur Suleiman, and debutants Swaleh Pamba, Kevin Okumu and Lewis Bandi.
The midfield includes Brian Musa, Alpha Onyango, Austin Odhiambo, Ben Stanley and Marvin Nabwire, forming a balanced core for McCarthy’s setup.
Up front, Masoud Juma will lead the attack. He will be supported by Mohammed Bajaber, Boniface Muchiri and Ryan Ogam, while David Sakwa, Austin Odongo and Felix Oluoch have earned their first senior team call-ups.
Captaincy duties will be led by Abud Omar, assisted by Daniel Sakari and Alphonce Omija.
Speaking after unveiling the squad, McCarthy expressed confidence in the team’s readiness:
“The preparations have been fantastic, and the lads have really stepped up the intensity. I’m pleased with how they’ve responded to the demands of the technical bench, and I’m satisfied with what I’ve seen in training. I’m confident we’ll be ready to represent the country well at CHAN.”
Kenya is drawn in a tough Group A alongside DR Congo, Angola, Morocco and Zambia. The Harambee Stars will begin their campaign on Sunday, August 3 against DR Congo.
