CECAFA names 12 teams for 2025 Kagame Cup in Tanzania

CECAFA has positioned the Kagame Cup as a vital build-up for clubs heading into the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup later in the season.

The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) has confirmed all 12 teams that will compete in the 2025 CECAFA Kagame Cup, scheduled for September 2–15 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

CECAFA Competitions Manager, Yusuf Mossi, announced the full line-up on Friday, expressing confidence that the tournament will be crucial for regional clubs as they prepare for continental assignments.

“We are happy that finally all the 12 teams are confirmed, and we expect them to arrive in Dar es Salaam on August 30th. The tournament will help our teams prepare ahead of the CAF competitions,” said Mossi, as seen by CECAFA.

Hosts Tanzania will be represented by Singida Black Stars FC, one of their representatives in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup, while Mogadishu City Club will fly the flag for Somalia. Other confirmed sides include last year’s finalists APR FC of Rwanda, Uganda’s Vipers SC, and El Merriekh SC Bentiu from South Sudan.

Also on the roster are Mlandege SC (Zanzibar), Kenya Police FC (Kenya), Flambeau du Centre (Burundi), Garde Cotes FC (Djibouti), Ethiopian Coffee SC (Ethiopia), with Sudan represented by two teams, Al Hilal Omdurman and Alahly SC Wad Madani.

The official draw for the tournament will take place on August 26. Mossi emphasised the importance of early preparations, noting that “We shall expect all the teams to arrive in Dar es Salaam on August 30th ahead of kick-off on September 2nd.”

CECAFA has positioned the Kagame Cup as a vital build-up for clubs heading into the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup later in the season.

In last year’s edition, Zambia’s Red Arrows FC, invited as a guest team, were crowned champions after edging Rwanda’s APR FC in the final played at the KMC Stadium.
