Kenya Police drawn with Tanzania, Djibouti, Ethiopia in Kagame Cup

The regional club competition, featuring 12 teams divided into three groups of four, will run from September 2 to 15 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Kenya Police have been drawn in Group A of the 2025 CECAFA Kagame Cup, where they will face Singida Black Stars of Tanzania, Garde Cotes of Djibouti, and Ethiopia Coffee of Ethiopia.

The regional club competition, featuring 12 teams divided into three groups of four, will run from September 2 to 15 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The draw was conducted on Thursday, August 28, at the Pan Pacific Suites in Nairobi, with the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) unveiling Betika as the official sponsor of the tournament.

The official draw placed APR FC of Rwanda, last year’s finalists, in Group B alongside NEC FC of Uganda, Bumamuru FC of Burundi, and Mlandege FC of Zanzibar.

Group C will feature Sudan’s Al Hilal, Kator SC of South Sudan, Mogadishu City Club of Somalia and Sudanese giants Al Ahly. Singida Black Stars, APR FC, and Al Hilal Omdurman were confirmed as the top-seeded teams in Groups A, B, and C, respectively.

The Kagame Cup matches will be staged across three venues in Dar es Salaam: the KMC Stadium, General Isamuhyo Grounds, and the Azam Complex.

According to the tournament format, the top team from each group will advance directly to the semifinals, where they will be joined by the best second-placed team across all groups.

The semifinals will see the winner of Group A face the best runner-up, while the winners of Groups B and C will clash for a place in the final.

Speaking during the sponsorship unveiling, CECAFA vice-president Paulos Weldehaimanot Andemariam welcomed the new partnership, describing it as a milestone for the regional competition.

“We are pleased to enter a partnership with Betika. With Betika joining as the official sponsor, we are taking this great tournament into a new era. This partnership reflects the power of collaboration between football and the private sector, and it demonstrates the confidence that a leading brand like Betika has in the value and potential of CECAFA competitions,” he said.

On his part, Betika Managing Director Mutua Mutava expressed pride in the sponsorship deal, which is valued at KSh 42 million for the 2025/26 season.

“Today, we announce a landmark sponsorship of 42 million Kenya shillings for the CECAFA Kagame Cup, cementing Betika’s place as the official sponsor of this prestigious tournament. This is not just a sponsorship: it is a statement of belief in the power of football to unite, inspire, and transform communities,” said Mutava.

The Kagame Cup, which has long served as a platform for top clubs in the region to showcase their talent, will run concurrently with other major football events in East Africa, including the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Qualifiers scheduled for September 4–16 and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on September 5 and 9.
