Kenya Police Bullets beat Eritrea’s DenDen FC 2-0, seal CECAFA semis spot in CAF Women’s Champions League qualifier

Kenya Police Bullets sealed their place in the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA qualifiers semi-finals with a 2-0 victory over Eritrea’s DenDen FC at Nyayo Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Striker Emily Moranga opened the scoring before Ugandan forward Zaina Namileme doubled the lead, ensuring the Kenyan champions claimed their second straight win in Group A. The Bullets had earlier edged Kampala Queens of Uganda 1-0 in their opening fixture.

The result leaves Police Bullets on top of Group A with six points, three clear of Kampala Queens, while DenDen remain bottom without a point. The Eritrean side has now been eliminated from the competition, having also suffered a 7-0 defeat to Kampala Queens in their first outing.
Despite the win, Police Bullets missed chances to extend the scoreline. Elizabeth Ochaka rattled the post in the 36th minute, while substitute Vidah Okeyo forced DenDen goalkeeper Sofanit Gebresilasie into a fine save in the 50th minute. DenDen’s best opportunity came in the 62nd minute when striker Rahwa Hans tested Annedy Kundu, but the Police Bullets keeper kept her clean sheet intact.
Head coach Beldine Odemba later introduced Sharon Vidah, Purity Anyetu, Rebecah Odato and Lucy Jirah in a tactical switch, replacing Margaret Kunihira, Zainab Namileme, Lourna Nyabuto and Leah Cherotich.
The Police Bullets will next face the winner of Group C, which features Tanzania’s JKT Queens, Yei Joint Stars from South Sudan and Zanzibar’s JKU Princess. The semi-finals are slated for September 14, with the final scheduled for September 11, followed by the third-place playoff on September 16.
The qualifiers, running until September 11, have brought together nine league champions from the CECAFA region to contest for a single slot at the CAF Women’s Champions League finals in Egypt later in November.
