DCI says Kware murder suspect Collins Jumaisi remains at large despite arrest rumours

A one-million-shilling cash reward is still available for anyone who provides information leading to Jumaisi’s capture.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday denied claims that Collins Jumaisi, the prime suspect in the gruesome Kware murders who escaped from Gigiri Police Station in August 2024, had been re-arrested.

The false reports had circulated on social media and in some mainstream media outlets following the reported arrest of a man claiming to be him in Naivasha.

"We wish to clarify that the information about his re-arrest is false, and Collins Jumaisi remains at large. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the members of the public for their invaluable support and cooperation in this ongoing search for Jumaisi. Your willingness to share information and assist in the effort is greatly appreciated," the DCI said, appealing to anyone with information about his whereabouts to report through the DCI hotlines.

Sh1 million cash reward

A Sh1 million cash reward is still available for anyone who provides information leading to Jumaisi’s capture.

"The DCI remains unwavering in its commitment to apprehending Collins Jumaisi and holding him accountable for the horrific crimes he has committed. This dedication aims to bring justice not only to the victims but also to their families, ensuring that they receive the closure they deserve," the statement added.

Two months ago, Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen told Parliament that Jumaisi was linked to the murders by detectives from the DCI's Homicide Unit following forensic analysis.

The suspect was arrested and arraigned in Makadara and detained for 30 days pending investigations. He was then remanded at Gigiri Police Station.

Escape from custody

However, on August 20, 2024, Jumaisi escaped from lawful custody at the station. An arrest warrant, which remains in force, was subsequently issued against him.

"The Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) launched an independent inquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding the escape, and investigations are ongoing. Multi-agency operations are in progress to trace and apprehend the suspect so that he can be charged before a court of law," Murkomen said, adding that the DCI, in collaboration with other multi-agency security teams, is actively working to locate and apprehend Jumaisi.
