Kenya Police FC advance in CAF Champions League despite 2-0 loss to Mogadishu City Club
The law enforcers had taken a 3-1 advantage from the first leg in Nairobi, but Mogadishu’s spirited home performance levelled the tie 3-3 on aggregate.
Kenya Police FC booked their place in the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League on Sunday, edging through on away goals despite falling 2-0 to Mogadishu City Club in the return leg played in Somalia.
The law enforcers had taken a 3-1 advantage from the first leg in Nairobi, but Mogadishu’s spirited home performance levelled the tie 3-3 on aggregate. Police held on thanks to their away goals, keeping their continental campaign alive.

Mogadishu signalled their intent early and were rewarded in the 34th minute when Albert Otieno’s misplaced touch gifted Issa Adan Yusuf the chance to slot home, cutting the deficit and lifting the hosts’ hopes.
Ten minutes after the break, the hosts struck again. Ibrahim Bangura converted from the penalty spot after a foul inside the box, sending goalkeeper Khadime Ndiaye the wrong way to even the aggregate score.
In response, Police turned to their bench, bringing on fresh legs, including Edward Omondi, who had scored in the first leg. Yet they struggled to find composure in the final third. Eustas Emodia fired over from a promising opening in the 80th minute, while Marvin Nabwire came close with a late free-kick.
Despite a flurry of late chances, Police could not find a breakthrough. Their first-leg heroics, however, carried them through. The Kenyan side now prepare for sterner challenges in the second preliminary round.
With Police advancing and Nairobi United also progressing in the CAF Confederation Cup, both clubs’ FKF Premier League fixtures in Game Weeks 6 and 7 will be rescheduled.
