Bujego lauds Kenya Police Bullets’ progress after back-to-back wins

Zetech Sparks head coach Fakhir Harriet has admitted that their 3-0 defeat to Kenya Police Bullets was down to a lack of composure and precision in front of goal.

Kenya Police Bullets head coach David Bujego believes his team is steadily adapting to his philosophy, saying progress has been positive, though it remains a gradual process.

Bujego, who took charge following Beldine Odemba’s departure, has guided the Bullets to back-to-back wins, a 2-1 victory over Kayole Starlets and a commanding 3-0 triumph against Zetech Sparks at the Police Sacco Stadium in South C.

“My players are trying very much. Things we trained on, some have been okay, others not okay, but we will not tire. We will continue to work hard, and maybe in the coming games, we will be okay,” said Bujego after Saturday’s win.

The tactician noted improvement in ball control and finishing compared to their opening match. “If you look at today’s game, we didn’t lose many balls in front of the goal like last time. In our last outing, we had to win with an own goal, but today we created and scored our own chances, so it’s good progress,” he added.

Police opened the scoring through Vidah Okeyo, whose long-range strike caught Zetech goalkeeper Melvin Guya off her line. Puren Alukwe doubled the lead before halftime after clever build-up play involving Margaret Kunihira and Emily Morang’a. In the second half, Diana Wacera sealed the victory with a stunning effort that hit both posts before finding the net.

Bujego praised his side’s defensive discipline, highlighting their clean sheet as a key takeaway. “We conceded from a set piece in our last game, but today we defended well. Breaking our defence is very hard now, though we still need to minimise giving away set pieces,” he noted.

Looking ahead, Bujego said the upcoming international break will be crucial for the squad’s chemistry. “I’ve been waiting for this break because I want my team to click with each other. I plan to lift the league title, and to do that, we must keep winning,” he affirmed.

The victory keeps Kenya Police Bullets second on the FKF Women’s Premier League table, level on points with Vihiga Queens but trailing on goal difference.

Meanwhile, Zetech Sparks head coach Fakhir Harriet has admitted that their 3-0 defeat to Kenya Police Bullets was down to a lack of composure and precision in front of goal.

Harriet, known for her attacking style of play, acknowledged that the team failed to make the most of their chances, something that proved costly in a fixture that has historically produced plenty of goals.

“I think the game was okay and very entertaining. It was head-to-head until they scored, but the only problem is that the chances we got, we didn’t utilise. When you are being scored, normally the morale derails,” said Harriet after the match.

Encounters between Kenya Police Bullets and Zetech Sparks have traditionally been high-scoring thrillers, sometimes producing up to seven goals in a single match.

In their previous meeting last season, Zetech came from 3-1 down to claim a dramatic 4-3 victory, a comeback Harriet had hoped to see repeated, but it was not to be this time.

“Coming into the second half, we needed to put in more effort, and I have to admit my players tried. Comparing both halves, according to what we had planned, they really gave it their best,” she added.

Despite the loss, the tactician praised her side’s resilience and emphasised her commitment to attacking football.

“Normally, I play attacking football, so in most of my games, I have to score. It’s rare to find such a match where I fail to score; this is the first. It means there’s a place we need improvement.”

Zetech struggled to find rhythm in the first half and went into the break trailing 2-0. Harriet revealed that her halftime talk focused on motivation and mental strength.

“I had to encourage them and tell them that, although they had been scored, what matters is the 90 minutes of the game. I hoped for a better second half, but it didn’t come as planned,” she admitted.

Harriet also spoke highly of Susan Akoth, a former FIFA U17 player, praising her adaptability and contribution to the team.

“Susan is a very good player; she understands the moments. According to how I play, she blends in very well with the team, so she’s one of the players I’ll use a lot,” said Harriet.

As the league heads into the international break, Zetech Sparks will be looking to regroup and return stronger as they aim to bounce back to winning ways after the setback against Kenya Police Bullets.
