The hosts, in only their second NSL season, maintained their strong home form under coach Francis Chege, who has now led them to two wins and a draw in their opening four matches.
Captain Dante opened the scoring in the 30th minute, rising highest to head home a perfect cross from Kithome and break the deadlock.
In the second half, Chege’s substitutions paid off immediately, with Oscar Juma and Kazungu combining to trouble the Mombasa defence. Their persistence was rewarded in the 67th minute when Juma dazzled past four defenders before Wahinya flicked in his low cross to make it 2-0.
Goalkeeper Peter produced a brilliant late save to secure 3K’s third consecutive clean sheet. The result lifts 3K to eight points from four matches, while ending Mombasa United’s unbeaten run.
At Vapour Grounds, Kibera Black Stars edged Nairobi City Stars 3-2 in a thrilling five-goal encounter.
Fidel Castro opened the scoring for Kibera in the 11th minute with a powerful header from an Erick Kipkirui corner, but Abuyeka Kubasu equalised for City Stars before halftime.
After the break, Bockins Adeya restored Kibera’s lead with another header, before Jephiter Bundi made it 3-1 just minutes later. City Stars pulled one back in the 71st minute, but Kibera held firm to secure their third straight win and continue their impressive early-season run.
