Equity Bank FC stun Migori Youth 3–2 to end unbeaten run in FKF National Super League thriller

Despite Migori’s strong start, Equity struck first in the 28th minute after a defensive lapse allowed George Kamau to pounce and slot home from close range

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) National Super League Round Six Sunday fixtures delivered drama, goals, and heartbreak as Migori Youth’s unbeaten run came to an end in a thrilling 3–2 loss to Equity Bank FC at the Vapor Grounds in Ngong.

Migori, who arrived unbeaten in five games and sitting top of the table, began with intensity and a high-pressing approach.

Early exchanges showed promise for the visitors: Kelly Collins blocked an early Equity attack, Churchill “Chicha” Otieno dribbled past defenders to send in a dangerous cross that was cleared, and Fred Ologi surged down the flank but saw his inviting delivery go unconverted.

Despite Migori’s strong start, Equity struck first in the 28th minute after a defensive lapse allowed George Kamau to pounce and slot home from close range. The hosts doubled their lead in first-half stoppage time, capitalising on another defensive mistake to go into the break 2–0 ahead.

Migori began the second half with renewed purpose, but their challenge deepened when they conceded a penalty in the 57th minute, which Equity converted to make it 3–0. Even so, the league leaders refused to surrender.

Just three minutes later, Fred Ologi pulled one back with a fine strike in the 60th minute, sparking hopes of a comeback. Those hopes dimmed when Churchill Otieno received a red card, reducing Migori to ten men. Despite the setback, the youthful side showed admirable resilience and determination.

In the 70th minute, Woodvine Okoth made it 3–2 after finishing off a slick attacking move, setting up a tense finale. With time running out, Kelly Collins nearly levelled the scores with a curling cross that forced a fingertip save from the Equity goalkeeper. Despite late pressure and a flurry of stoppages—including a booking for time wasting that saw the Equity coach cautioned—the hosts held on for a hard-fought win.

Migori’s spirited fightback fell just short, but their determination and character, even with ten men, earned praise from supporters. The defeat was their first of the season, though they remain top of the table with 13 points from six matches.

In Kisii, Fortune Sacco FC staged a brilliant comeback to beat Gucha Stars 3–2 at Gusii Stadium. The hosts led 2–1 midway through the second half, but Fortune’s experience showed as they struck twice late on to claim all three points. The result lifts them into the top half of the table, while Gucha’s struggles for consistency persist.

At Mumboha Grounds, Vihiga United edged Luanda Villa 1–0 in the much-anticipated “Vihiga Derby.” The tightly contested match was decided by a single second-half goal, with United’s solid defending securing their second win of the season—and local bragging rights.

Meanwhile, Nzoia Sugar FC and Mombasa United shared the spoils in an entertaining 2–2 draw at Sudi Stadium in Bungoma. Mombasa took an early lead before Nzoia responded twice through set pieces, but the visitors salvaged a point late on to maintain their strong start and remain second behind Migori.

In Embu, 3K FC and Mwatate United played out a 1–1 draw at Moi Stadium. The hosts dominated possession and chances but were let down by poor finishing. Mwatate, rooted at the bottom of the table, held firm for a morale-boosting away point—their third of the season.
