Gaza Stars overcome Corner Legends to lift Ramadan Cup

By |

Another mini-tournament involving eight teams will now kick off next week

Gaza Stars are the 2024 Ramadan Cup football tournament champions after they defeated Corner Legends 1-0 in an entertaining match played at New Eastleigh Primary School on Friday 29 March. This was Gaza Stars’ first appearance in the tournament’s final.

The final was initially scheduled to be played on Tuesday 26 March, but the tournament’s organisers, the New Isli Management, postponed the much-anticipated clash following heavy rains that had caused flooding in various parts of Nairobi and rendered the pitch unplayable.

The tournament had started with sixteen teams on Friday 8 March  and Gaza Stars reached the final after eliminating Nasra Garden (Round of 16), and Rayan (Quarterfinals), Karantiil (Semifinals).

On their part, Corner Legends made their way to the final after blazing past South C (Round of 16), Viola (Quarterfinals), and Burhan (Semfinals).

Other teams that competed in the tournament are; California, Cicinho, Climbing Stars, Kakuma, Komorock, Sharp, Villa Roma, and Xidigaha.

Gaza Stars players also scooped all the individual awards with Mohamed Khadar being named the tournament’s top scorer as well as the best defender. Khadar also scored Gaza Stars’ winning goal in the final. Khadar’s teammate, Khalid Yusuf was named the tournament’s best player.
