Talanta blind Tusker as Leopards deepen Posta's woes

By |

The Brewers are now fourth on the FKFPL standings with 43 points after 26 matches

Thirteen-time league champions Tusker FC tasted defeat in the most unlikely of circumstances after losing 3-1 at home to unfancied FC Talanta in a match that was played at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.

The Brewers, who were second on the league standings going into Round 26, got off to a good start after Erick Kapaito gave them the lead in the 24th minute.

However, the Brewers could not hold onto their as the away side, who had won only once in 2024, levelled the score in the 45th minute through December Kisaka.

When the second half resumed, Talanta pulled away in the 62nd minute after Kevintom Machika gave them the lead. Tusker could not catch up with the visitors who put the tie beyond the alemen with a Michael Jairo goal in the 87th minute.

The result saw Tusker sliding to fourth with 43 points as their losing streak stretching to two matches as the club conceded six goals in as many league games. Before the wretched run, Tusker had only condeded four times since the year started.

On the other hand, Talanta ended a seven-match winless streak as they leapfrogged Sofapaka to 14th place with their points tally improving to 30.

In a match played later at the same venue, AFC Leopards warmed up for their Nairobi Derby match against their eternal rivals Gor Mahia next weekend with a 1-0 win over the beleaguered Posta Rangers who have now lost in four consecutive league matches.

The goal that sunk Posta Rangers came from a familiar foe with their former defender, Ken Owino, who had crossed over to Ingwe in the January transfer window, scoring the all-important goal for AFC Leopards in the 40th minute.

The result, however, sees no changes in the league positions of the two teams with Posta Rangers staying 7th on 39 points while AFC Leopards remain 8th but having their points tally increasing to 38.
