With three points and an impressive goal tally of five, Kenya currently tops the standings. Following closely is Rwanda, also with three points but a slightly inferior goal difference.

Kenya's Junior Stars displayed their prowess with a commanding 5-0 victory over Sudan in their opening match of the 2023 Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (Cecafa) U-18 Championships, at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu.

The US-based forward, Louise Ingavi, stole the show in the first half, netting twice and setting the tone for Kenya's triumphant performance. Ingavi showcased his aerial prowess with a seventh-minute header from close range, securing an early lead for the Junior Stars. Shortly after, Rainbow FC winger Tyron 'Junior' Kariuki doubled the scores with a skilful manoeuvre, leaving his marker bewildered and slotting a precise low shot past Sudan's goalkeeper Ahmed Alkhdeer. Not to be outdone, Aldrine Kibet extended Kenya's lead to 3-0 just three minutes later.

The first half concluded with Ingavi completing his brace on the stroke of halftime, propelling Kenya to a comfortable 4-0 lead.

The second half saw Elly Owande putting the finishing touch on the victory with a late goal two minutes from full time, sealing a resounding win for Kenya and solidifying their dominance in Group A.

With three points and an impressive goal tally of five, Kenya currently tops the standings. Following closely is Rwanda, also with three points but a slightly inferior goal difference.

In an earlier kick-off match at the same venue, Rwanda secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Somalia, adding further intensity to the competition.

Kenya coach Salim Salim Babu credited the victory to thorough training.

“We played a good game and utilized all the opportunities we had. We had thorough training that made the players more flexible to handle the game,” said Salim.
