AFC Leopards and Tusker grapple with relegation threat after barren draw in Machakos

Tusker now sits 12th on the log with 15 points, trailing leaders Gor Mahia by 12 points. Gor Mahia claimed the top spot with a 2-1 victory over Kariobangi Sharks at the same venue on Sunday.

AFC Leopards and Tusker FC are still grappling with the threat of relegation after playing to a goalless draw in a FKF Premier League match played at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Monday, December 4, 2023.

Both teams lacked attacking prowess, resulting in a shared outcome in a match where both sought a victory to reverse their poor form in the league. The draw marked the fourth stalemate for Ingwe in their last five games.

The outcome also brings Tusker's head coach Robert Matano under scrutiny, as the team has recorded only two wins in their last eight fixtures. Despite the jaded performance this season, Matano remains optimistic about their title chances.

The Ruaraka-based team has themselves to blame, squandering numerous chances that could have secured them maximum points in the closely contested match.

"We had a good game despite the draw. Our opponents are seasoned in this competition, and we anticipated a tough match, so the result is not surprising. We are not in a bad position, and I believe we still have a chance to compete successfully for the title if we focus on our remaining matches," remarked Matano after the game.

Tusker now sits 12th on the log with 15 points, trailing leaders Gor Mahia by 12 points. Gor Mahia claimed the top spot with a 2-1 victory over Kariobangi Sharks at the same venue on Sunday. Meanwhile, AFC Leopards remain in the 14th position with 11 points.
