The 2024-25 FKF Premier League kicked off with a mix of cautious play and early drama, as Tusker FC claimed the only victory on a day dominated by stalemates. Chrispine Erambo's decisive goal sealed a 1-0 win over Sofapaka, while three other matches ended in draws.
The 2024-25 FKF Premier League season kicked off on Saturday with a cautious start, as no team seemed in a hurry to secure a win until Tusker FC defeated Sofapaka FC 1-0 in the day’s late kick-off at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.
Chrispine Erambo’s 61st-minute strike was enough to secure victory for the 12-time league champions, adding to Sofapaka's woes. Sofapaka, who narrowly escaped relegation last season, had only 13 players available for the match. This loss hints at another challenging season for Batoto ba Mungu.

Before Tusker's victory, the earlier three matches ended in stalemates. The season opener between Posta Rangers and Bandari ended 1-1 at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos. Henry Juma’s 27th-minute goal gave Posta Rangers the lead, but Beja Nyamawi equalized for Bandari in the 58th minute, preventing a second consecutive away defeat to the Mailmen.
At Thika Stadium, Shabana FC couldn’t capitalize on Mathew Tegisi’s 3rd-minute goal, as Bidco United’s Douglas Mokaya equalized in the 49th minute. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, the first in their top-flight encounters.
KCB and Kariobangi Sharks played to a goalless draw at the Police Sacco Stadium. KCB managed to halt a three-match losing streak against Sharks, who couldn’t extend their dominance from last season.
Tomorrow’s fixtures include Mathare United’s return to the top flight against AFC Leopards at Dandora Stadium, newly-promoted Mara Sugar facing Kakamega Homeboyz at Green Stadium in Awendo, and Ulinzi Stars hosting Murang’a SEAL at Ulinzi Sports Complex. The league will then take a break until September 14, 2024, when Round 2 matches resume.
