Sofapaka star Omondi aims to end season on a high

Edward “Ondimo” Omondi stole the show with two goals and three assists as Sofapaka FC stunned Tusker FC 7–1, keeping their push for a top-six finish in the FKF Premier League alive.
Sofapaka FC dealt a stunning blow to Tusker FC’s title hopes with a 7–1 demolition job in Matchweek 32 of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL), with debutant Edward “Ondimo” Omondi at the heart of the rout.
Omondi, who is enjoying a breakthrough season in the top flight, was directly involved in five of the goals, scoring twice and providing three assists as Sofapaka delivered one of the biggest wins of the 2024/25 season.

“I had no pressure coming into the game,” Omondi told The Eastleigh Voice. “We had analysed Tusker and knew they’d be under pressure. So we just kept our composure. That’s the second-biggest win I’ve ever had, and the biggest in the KPL. The other was an 8–1 win when I played for Rainbow against Zetech.”
The 21-year-old has now taken his league tally to nine goals, matching the season totals of established names like Austine Odhiambo and Mohammed Bajaber. His rise has not gone unnoticed. He was recently named in the provisional Harambee Stars squad.
“Being on the scoresheet always feels great,” Omondi added. “It’s not easy, and I thank God and my teammates. My goal is to leave a legacy at Sofapaka.”
Sofapaka’s emphatic victory lifted them to seventh on the FKFPL table with 43 points. With two matches remaining, against relegation-threatened Posta Rangers and Bidco United, the team is pushing to finish in the top six.
AFC Leopards, currently ahead of Sofapaka, hold a game in hand. But should they drop points and Sofapaka maintain their form, sixth place remains within reach. Mathematically, Sofapaka cannot finish lower than 10th.
“The coach wants us to hit at least 46 points,” Omondi said. “Our next game is against Posta in Machakos. I scored in the first leg, so I want to confirm them again in the return leg. We’re going for the win.”
Sofapaka edged Posta Rangers 2–1 in the reverse fixture.
At the top of the table, Kenya Police lead with 61 points. Tusker’s heavy defeat leaves them second with 55 points, and their title hopes have faded. Gor Mahia, in third on 54 points with three games in hand, remain in contention.
At the bottom end, Nairobi City Stars sit 18th with 31 points, followed by Bidco United with 32 and Murang’a Seal with 33 in the relegation zone.
With the season drawing to a close, all eyes will be on whether Sofapaka can seal a top-six finish and whether Omondi’s dream debut season has a few more goals in it.
