In a somber gathering today, hundreds of Muslims converged at the Garbatula Muslim Cemetery to lay to rest a Pakistani religious leader, Mohamed Asgar, who tragically lost his life in a banditry attack at Kachuru along the Isiolo-Garbatula road. The incident occurred as Asgar and eight other Pakistani nationals were en route to an annual religious gathering.

Mohamed Asgar, a 48-year-old Pakistani national, was traveling with fellow compatriots for the Tablighi gathering when the fateful attack transpired, resulting in one fatality and another individual sustaining injuries.

During the burial ceremony, religious leaders strongly condemned the attack, appealing to the government to enhance security measures along the Marsabit-Isiolo and Garbatula road. They characterized the act of spraying bullets at innocent passengers as both evil and inhumane, emphasizing the urgent need for a collective effort to eradicate such violence.

Sheikh Abukar Issack, addressing the mourners, expressed concern that indiscriminate attacks on vehicles could lead to a situation where these bandits unknowingly target their own relatives. He urged for swift and decisive action to eliminate the threat posed by such criminal activities.

The injured religious leader was promptly referred to Nairobi for medical attention, underscoring the severity of the incident and the need for comprehensive medical care.

The annual religious Tablighi gathering, scheduled to take place on December 28-31 at Garbatula Markaz, attracted attendees from various parts of the world. The tragic events leading to Mohamed Asgar's untimely demise cast a shadow over the anticipated gathering, prompting renewed calls for enhanced security to ensure the safety of travelers on this crucial route.
