[HOLD] Gen Z in Tana River want governor to fire cabinet
Youths in Tana River County have called on Governor Dhadho Godhana to sack cabinet members with graft cases and perennial audit queries.
According to the group, the executive arm of the county government has failed to deliver its manifesto for the last seven years and hence must be held accountable.

"This county has received more than Sh50 billion in the last six years, yet when you drive through there is nothing to show of it apart from Chief Officers driving fuel guzzlers and cabinet ministers building maisonettes in their villages," said Hamida Shora, a resident.
According to Shora, some chief officers have been summoned by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission in the recent past, and some continue to plunder public resources in the second term.
She notes that whereas hospitals lack drugs, theatres lack equipment, poor roads, lack of water and markets, members of the executive arm have been changing vehicles and treating residents with contempt and arrogance.
"The auditor general flagged Sh1.8 billion that was unaccounted for in 2022-2023, in that query, the county administration had spent more than Sh40 million on unknown legal battles," said Shora.
Her sentiments are echoed by Yasmin Hassan, chairperson of the Tana River Youth Council, who reiterates that the auditor general report has consecutively flagged expenditure in the county, pointing at possible theft in the county.
"There is a consistency in the theft across the departments in the county, if they are not stealing through the department roads and public works, you will find them stealing bursaries or the budget for special programs, "she said.
Hassan further notes that even in the collection of revenue, the administration has failed to give value for money collected, as markets lie in a sorry state.
With the county finance bill set for debate by MCAs on Thursday, the Gen-Z have sworn to hold protests at the county assembly gates to oppose the bill until the administration accounts for the past finance bills.
Further, they have warned the governor of protests to impeach him from the seat if he insists on tagging with officers whose credibility have been put to question.
"We are not going to pamper him as the elders have been doing, we are going to act decisively by collecting signatures and casting a vote of no confidence against him, we shall gather more than 50,000 signatures to the senate since our County Assembly bows to him, "said Mohammed Jilo.
