Garissa Governor Nathif Jama has urgently appealed to the national government for air assistance in delivering food supplies to regions where roads have become impassable due to the El Nino rains.

Garissa Governor Nathif Jama has urgently appealed to the national government for air assistance in delivering food supplies to regions where roads have become impassable due to the El Nino rains. Speaking in Garissa Town during a food distribution exercise for 2,500 families displaced by the River Tana floods, the governor highlighted that Lagdera, Dadaab, Holugho, and Fafi sub-counties are severely affected, leading to a humanitarian crisis.

"The rain destroyed the road infrastructure, and the smooth supply of food was affected. We are requesting the national government to support us with helicopters so that we can reach these who are starving," said Governor Nathif Jama. He emphasised that parts of Garissa Town is currently having 8 camps of internally displaced persons, from the worst-hit areas. In total, approximately 6,000 people in other sub-counties were affected by flash floods.

During the food distribution exercise in Garissa township, 800 families in Bulla Sheikh, Bulla Punda, and ADC internally displaced persons received aid. The relief package included maize flour, porridge flour, dates, cooking oil, sugar, rice, and packaged milk.
