Senate convenes special sitting to debate key county revenue bills
The sitting will also provide room to consider any other urgent business or messages from the National Assembly or county assemblies that may arise.
The Senate will hold a special sitting on Friday to deliberate on key financial legislation affecting counties and marginalised regions, following a directive issued by Senate Speaker Amason Kingi.
The session, convened under Senate Standing Orders upon the request of the Senate Majority Leader, Aaron Cheruyiot and backed by the required number of Senators, will focus on critical budgetary and allocation bills.

In the notice dated June 26, Kingi outlined the agenda of the sitting, which includes the Equalisation Fund Appropriation Bill (Senate Bills No. 7 of 2025), the County Allocation of Revenue Bill (Senate Bills No. 9 of 2025), and the County Governments Additional Allocations (No. 2) Bill (Senate Bills No. 8 of 2025).
Senators will also review the Report of the Mediation Committee on the Division of Revenue Bill (National Assembly Bills No. 10 of 2025), alongside the agreed version of the same bill.
These legislative items are crucial in determining how national revenue is shared between the national and county governments, and how additional funds will be allocated to support development across the 47 counties.
The sitting will also provide room to consider any other urgent business or messages from the National Assembly or county assemblies that may arise.
After the conclusion of the special sitting, the Senate is expected to adjourn until Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 2:30 p.m., as scheduled in the Senate Calendar.
