Ruto fulfils promise to late Baringo senator, nominates widow for Cabinet Secretary position

President William Ruto has nominated Hanna Wendot, the wife of the late Baringo Senator William Cheptumo, for the position of cabinet secretary for gender, culture, the arts, and heritage. This move fulfils Ruto's promise to the late senator, demonstrating his commitment to honouring his word.

“The president has congratulated the nominees on their nominations and conveyed his best wishes as they undergo the requisite parliamentary approval process in fulfilment of the legal requirements set under our Constitution,” Koskei stated.
Wendot is a renowned Kenyan lawyer, celebrated for her exceptional legal expertise, resilience, and dedication to family and community service. Her journey into law was inspired by her late husband, who envisioned her playing a pivotal role in managing their family's legal practice. She later joined her husband's law firm, where she made significant contributions to its operations.
As cabinet secretary for gender, culture, the arts, and heritage, Wendot will be responsible for driving policies and initiatives that promote gender equality, cultural diversity, and artistic expression.
The late Senator William Cheptumo passed away on February 15, 2025, at the age of 57, while undergoing treatment for an undisclosed illness at a Nairobi hospital. He was remembered by President Ruto as a "progressive leader" dedicated to public service and by former Baringo Senator Gideon Moi as an "honest, affable, and dependable leader"
