Junior Starlets return home to heroic welcome after 2-0 win against Uganda

FKF CEO Harold Ndege hailed the team's impressive performance, assuring them of support throughout the tournament.

The Junior Starlets landed today at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport after their successful outing in Uganda, where they secured a 2-0 win over their hosts.

The crucial goals were bagged by Ednah Nasipwondi and Joan Ogola during the first leg of the second round of the African qualifiers for the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.

Upon arrival, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) CEO Harold Ndege hailed the team's impressive performance, assuring them of support throughout the tournament.

"Today, we have come to receive the Junior Starlets U-17 for the wonderful performance they demonstrated yesterday against the Ugandan team. We are very proud of these young girls, we are very proud of the technical bench, and we will continue supporting this team to the best of our abilities," said Ndege.

Looking back, head coach Mildred Cheche acknowledged that the game was tough, although she attributed their win to the hard work of the players.

"The game was hard, but our team gave their best and helped us secure an away win, which is a great achievement on our part," she said.

Looking ahead, Cheche highlighted that the home game will also be challenging, cautioning against premature celebrations and emphasising the need for continued hard work to secure victory in the return leg.

"At home, the game will still be tough because we cannot say we have already won until we finish the second leg. Only then can we say we have won."

Captain Halima Imbachi thanked various parties for their support, highlighting the coach's input before the match, which she noted was not easy.

"I begin by thanking our fans, the FKF body for their support, and our coach, who gave us powerful words before the game. The game was not easy, but we implemented Cheche's words and won. We promise our coach that we will not fail them — we will make sure we sweep aside any team that comes our way."

The Junior Starlets will face Uganda again in the return leg on March 16 at the Nyayo National Stadium, with kick-off set for 3 pm EAT.
