NYS announces nationwide recruitment drive for volunteers
The recruitment process is set to run from Monday, February 10, to Saturday, February 15, 2025.
The National Youth Service (NYS) has advertised a recruitment exercise for volunteers across the country.
The recruitment process, set to run from Monday, February 10, to Saturday, February 15, 2025 will take place across the country.
In an advertisement published in the MyGov paper, NYS outlined the criteria for potential candidates.
To be eligible for enlistment, applicants must be Kenyan citizens, residents of their respective sub-counties, and have obtained a minimum mean grade of D plain in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
"Applicants must meet these requirements to be considered for selection," the notice reads. "We are looking for committed individuals who are ready to serve their country."
Candidates are required to produce an original National ID and a Certificate of Good Conduct. Additionally, they must undergo a medical check-up both during and after the recruitment process. Successful candidates will then report for a demanding paramilitary course at the NYS Academy located in Gilgil and Naivasha, where they will receive training.
The NYS has also expressed a commitment to ensuring inclusivity in the recruitment process, with special preference being given to orphans who meet the eligibility requirements. The same consideration applies to persons with disabilities, provided they are able to complete the physical training.
"We are excited to offer these opportunities to all qualified Kenyans, including those from vulnerable groups such as orphans and persons with disabilities," said the NYS spokesperson. "We believe in equal chances for all, as long as they can meet the physical demands of the program."
However, the NYS has issued a stern warning regarding corruption. The notice emphasises that any form of canvassing or offering monetary or other considerations for recruitment is strictly prohibited.
"NYS does not condone corruption in any form. Canvassing and giving monetary or other considerations for admission is an offence that may lead to automatic disqualification or prosecution," the advertisement states.
