Traffic disruptions ahead as KeNHA closes key roads for event and upgrades

These closures come just days after a disruption was announced at the Haile Selassie roundabout for the construction of a pedestrian underpass, highlighting KeNHA's ongoing efforts to improve road safety and infrastructure.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced temporary closures on two key roads to facilitate a special event and essential road upgrades.

On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, a section of Uhuru Highway (A8) on the Mombasa-bound carriageway will be closed between University Way and Kenyatta Avenue roundabouts from 9 am to 10.30 am.

This disruption will allow for a procession celebrating World Engineering Day.

"KeNHA would like to inform the public of a temporary closure of Uhuru Highway (A8) at the section between University Way and Kenyatta Avenue roundabouts on the Mombasa bound carriageway on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 from 9.00 am to 10.30 am.

Motorists heading towards Mombasa Road are advised to exit the highway at either the Boulevard Hotel onto Harry Thuku Road, then via Moi Avenue and Kenyatta Avenue to rejoin the highway at the Kenyatta Avenue roundabout, or take the University Way roundabout onto Nyerere Road, Processional Way, and Kenyatta Avenue to rejoin at the same roundabout.

"KeNHA advises motorists to approach the section with caution and follow the proposed traffic management plan herein as well as cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site," notice reads further.

In addition, Juja-Gatundu Road will be temporarily closed to allow for the installation of a cross culvert.

The closure began on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 8 pm and will last until March 3, 2025.

"Juja - Gatundu traffic will be diverted through the diversion at Equity Afia Medical Centre (Juja) Road to join Juja - Gatundu Road and Mucatha Road through Jomo Kenyatta University Way roundabout to join Thika Superhighway as an alternative route during this period," KeNHA stated.

These closures come just days after a disruption was announced at the Haile Selassie roundabout for the construction of a pedestrian underpass, highlighting KeNHA's ongoing efforts to improve road safety and infrastructure.
