Hundreds of vulnerable families in Kamukunji receive Ramadan food aid
Each household received 12 kilograms of wheat flour, 10 kilograms of maize flour, 10 kilograms of rice, 10 kilograms of sugar, and three litres of vegetable cooking oil.
In a charitable effort during the holy month of Ramadan, 300 vulnerable Muslim families in Kamukunji sub-county in Nairobi received food rations from the Property Developers Welfare Society of Nairobi. The distribution, implemented by the Peace and Youth Awareness (PAY) Youth Group, aimed to ensure that families had sufficient food supplies for iftar, the evening meal that breaks the daily fast.

This initiative marks the sixth consecutive year that the Property Developers Welfare Society has provided food assistance to vulnerable families during Ramadan.
Kamukunji Member of Parliament Yusuf Hassan, who attended the event as the chief guest, expressed appreciation for the organization's continued support.
He emphasized the importance of giving during Ramadan and encouraged other business leaders to contribute to similar efforts.
"We hope others will also learn from this and extend a helping hand to those in need. In Islam, those who are blessed with wealth have a duty to support their less fortunate brothers and sisters," he said.

The Chairman of the Property Developers Welfare Society, Abdirahman Shibli, also thanked members of the association for their financial contributions, which made the food distribution possible.
He referred to a saying of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), which states that charity does not diminish wealth but rather increases it.
Identifying beneficiaries
Abdirahman explained the process used to identify beneficiaries, stating that the association works in collaboration with local government officials.
"The list is brought to us by the Chief, Assistant County Commissioner, Members of County Assembly, and the office of the Kamukunji Member of Parliament," he said.

He further noted that if all business people joined forces, they could raise enough resources to support every vulnerable family in the area.
California Member of County Assembly Hashim Kamau, who was also present at the event, highlighted the broader contributions of the Property Developers Welfare Society beyond the iftar food charity.
He noted that the association had played a key role in infrastructure development in California citing the tarmacking of Timboroa and Waudo Street as an example, explaining that the association stepped in after a contractor assigned by the Nairobi City County failed to complete the work satisfactorily.
"Besides this iftar program, after my election, we faced a major challenge with road construction. A contractor had been assigned the task of building the Waudo and Timboroa roads. However, without the support of Property Developers, these roads would likely still be unfinished today," Hashim said.
The food rations provided are expected to sustain the recipient families until the end of Ramadan, which began on March 1 and is set to conclude on March 30.
Ramadan is observed as a month of prayer, charity, and forgiveness, and initiatives like this aim to support those in need during this sacred period.
