DCI arrests two suspects caught on video robbing people during Ruto's Nairobi tour

Two mobile phones recovered from the two suspects will be forwarded to the DCI Cybercrime Unit for analysis.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is holding two men caught on video committing robberies on Thika Road and Langata Road during President William Ruto's tour of Nairobi last week.

They are Yahya Abdi Argamso and Musa Kimani Haji who were picked up at their hideout in Mlango Kubwa, Pangani in Nairobi on Tuesday.

Corporal Kassim Yakub of Starehe DCI offices obtained orders from the Makadara Law Courts to detain the suspects for five days as investigations into robberies continue.

In an affidavit filed in court, Kassim said a motorcycle registration KMFK 108Z, which was used by Yahya and Musa in the alleged robberies, was recovered at the time of their arrest.

Two mobile phones, a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and an iPhone, suspected to have been stolen from robbery victims, were recovered from the two.

Kassim said he's investigating a case of robbery with violence concerning robberies that happened during presidential functions on March 11 and 13, 2025, in Nairobi.

"On diverse dates between March 11 and 13, 2025, the respondents (Yahya and Musa) on board a motorcycle were captured on camera during a presidential convoy robbing people along the Thika Superhighway and Langata Road," reads the affidavit.

"The videos circulated on social media and investigations commenced. The respondents were identified which led to their arrest on March 18, 2025."

Kassim said the two are a flight risk as they do not have a known place of abode and were found without any identification documents.

The detective said that the suspects have key information on the whereabouts of the other robbery suspects who are at large and investigators need time to analyse all actionable intelligence given by the two suspects.

Kassim said he needs time to interrogate the two suspects, record their statements and recover the weapons used by the suspects in the alleged robberies.

The two mobile phones recovered from the two suspects will be forwarded to the DCI Cybercrime Unit for analysis.

The DCI also intends to trace the other suspects who are at large, record witness statements, retrieve the footage and forward it to the photographic and acoustic section.

The orders were granted by Senior Principal Magistrate Joseph Karanja of Makadara Law Courts and the case will be mentioned in March 25.
