Senior Principal Magistrate Robin Ondieki directed The Karen Hospital and Plainsview Hospital Ruiru Branch to give investigators certified copies of Koimburi’s health records for the period between May 26 and May 29, 2025.
A court in Nairobi has issued an order allowing police to obtain medical records of Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi from two hospitals as part of investigations into claims that he was abducted and tortured.
Senior Principal Magistrate Robin Ondieki directed The Karen Hospital and Plainsview Hospital Ruiru Branch to give investigators certified copies of Koimburi’s health records for the period between May 26 and May 29, 2025.

The directive followed a request by police who said their attempts to access the MP and his medical details had been blocked by both hospitals.
“A warrant do hereby issue to investigate The Karen Hospital-Nairobi and Plainsview Hospital patient records relating to Juja MP George Koimburi to enable Nicholas Njoroge, an Investigator attached to DCI Operations Support Unit, to have access, inspect/ investigate, obtain information and demand to be supplied with and carry away as exhibits certified copies of all the health records,” reads part of the order.
Police told the court that gaining access to Koimburi’s medical history was necessary to help uncover the truth behind his disappearance and injuries. They said the incident has created anxiety across the country at a time when abduction fears are rising.
They added that the outcome of the investigation would matter not just to political leaders but to the general public as well, especially in understanding whether such incidents are carried out by official agencies or unknown forces.
The magistrate granted the application and further ordered hospital officials to assign representatives to produce the electronic records and issue a certificate of production under section 106(B) of the Evidence Act.
The records are to be used as exhibits in the ongoing investigation.
Inspector Njoroge said the matter was first reported at Mugutha Police Station on May 25, 2025, at 4 pm by one Peter Kiratu Mbari.
According to the report, Koimburi had just left a church service when unknown individuals wearing blue masks forced him into a Subaru Forester and drove away.
The incident was caught on mobile phone cameras and widely circulated online, sparking alarm among citizens, fellow politicians, and the MP’s family and friends.
On the morning of May 26, Koimburi was discovered in distress inside a coffee plantation in his Juja Constituency.
He was rushed to Plainsview Hospital for initial treatment before being transferred to The Karen Hospital for further medical attention.
The court’s decision to grant access to Koimburi’s medical records comes just days after four individuals linked to the alleged staged abduction were released on bail.
The suspects Grace Nduta Wairimu (MCA for Kanyenya-ini Ward), Peter Kiratu Mbari, David Macharia Gatana, and Cyrus Muhia were released by Milimani Law Courts after the magistrate found there were no sufficient grounds to keep them in custody.
Each suspect was granted a cash bail of Sh300,000 or a bond of Sh1 million.
The court directed them not to contact any witnesses, directly or indirectly, and to report to the investigating officer weekly or when called upon by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
Magistrate Carolyne Mugo also allowed the prosecution to apply for cancellation of bail if any of the suspects violated the terms of their release.
The four were arrested following reports that Koimburi’s abduction may have been staged, with the intent to commit murder, which is an offence under Section 258 of the Penal Code.
They were presented in court under a miscellaneous application in which police had sought to hold them longer to complete investigations and await directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The case is set to be mentioned on June 5, 2025.
