Iran launches missile attack against US bases in Qatar, Iraq

Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that Tehran had begun a missile campaign dubbed the "Annunciation of Victory," targeting US bases in both Iraq and Qatar.

Qatar's air defence systems responded to several missiles over the capital Doha on Monday, as Iran announced the launch of a military operation targeting US forces at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.

Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that Tehran had begun a missile campaign dubbed the "Annunciation of Victory," targeting US bases in both Iraq and Qatar.

"Iran has launched a powerful and destructive missile attack on the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar in response to the US striking its nuclear facilities," the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said in a statement.

“In response to American aggressive action against Iran nuclear site and facilities a few hours ago, the powerful Armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran destroyed the American airbase in Al Udeid, Qatar, the number of missile used in this successful operation was the same as the number of bombs used by the United State in its attack on Iran nuclear facilities."

"The base targeted by Iranian forces was far from the urban facilities and residential areas in Qatar. This action does not pose any threat to our friendly brotherly country, Qatar and its noble people. Iran remains committed to maintaining and continuing warm and historic relations with Qatar," the statement from Iranian forces read, according to Al Jazeera.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran, relying on Almighty God and the faithful, proud people of Iran, will never leave any aggression against its territorial integrity, sovereignty, or national security unanswered.”

The strike was reported shortly after Qatar temporarily closed its airspace amid rising tensions and threats from Iran.

Qatar’s defense ministry said its air defenses “successfully” intercepted a missile attack targeting the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, adding that the attack did not result in any deaths or injuries.

The ministry reassured the public that Qatari airspace and territory remain safe and that its armed forces are fully prepared to handle any threat.

The airspace shutdown is one of several steps being taken across the region as fears grow over a potential escalation between Iran and the United States.

The move follows Iran’s repeated threats to retaliate following recent strikes on its nuclear facilities, which it attributes to the US.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Majed al-Ansari, strongly condemned the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attack on the Al-Udeid air base, describing it as “a violation of Qatar’s sovereignty, airspace, and the United Nations Charter.”

In an official statement, Majed asserted, “The State of Qatar reserves the right to respond directly to this blatant act of aggression, in accordance with international law.”
