At the same time, the Head of State assured the new commanders of his full support and encouraged them to lead the thousands of men and women under their command with professionalism and purpose.
President William Ruto has told newly appointed Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) commanders that they now bear the heavy responsibility of protecting the peace, borders, and future of the country.
Speaking on Saturday during an investiture ceremony at State House, Nairobi, Ruto said the officers’ new roles are a result of their dedication, discipline, and integrity, and urged them to uphold the high standards of the military.

“To all of you whom we have witnessed your promotion and investiture, this elevation and new responsibilities are as a result of your commitment to the service of this country in the KDF,” he said.
He reminded the officers that the leadership they now hold must serve all Kenyans and preserve the country’s peace and territorial integrity.
“It is my expectation and that of the people of Kenya that you will discharge your responsibilities in the interest of our nation, for the benefit of millions of our citizens and in ensuring the safety of our borders and the integrity of our boundaries,” he added.
Ruto further said he personally reviewed the careers of the promoted officers and was satisfied they had earned their new ranks.
“I have meticulously observed and with a lot of diligence, I looked at your career progression, and I am satisfied that the ranks you now occupy are merited by your service, your commitment and your integrity,” he stated.
At the same time, the Head of State assured the new commanders of his full support and encouraged them to lead the thousands of men and women under their command with professionalism and purpose.
“I want to give you my assurance of my support and my assistance whenever you need, as you discharge the heavy but noble responsibility and mandate of providing leadership,” he declared.
The President stressed that the KDF must remain professional, dependable, and focused on securing the nation. “We must never compromise on the high standards that have been set by your predecessors, by tradition and by history.”
“I believe that you have the requisite leadership to be able to preserve the place of the Kenya Defence Forces and the professionalism and integrity that have been witnessed over the years,” he said
Ruto added that peace and stability are critical to every Kenyan’s daily life, from going to work to running businesses and said KDF plays a direct role in safeguarding that environment.
“We have a stable and peaceful environment for the citizens of Kenya to be able to undertake their responsibilities, to carry out their businesses, and to make sure that they can go to work,” he said
The President concluded by pledging that the government will continue providing the necessary resources for the KDF to function effectively.
“I am invested in making sure that we provide the equipment, the logistics, the human capital necessary for the KDF to discharge the responsibility and mandate that you have.”
On Friday, the President made sweeping changes to the military leadership through promotions and appointments announced by the Ministry of Defence Director of Communication, Temesi Mukani.
Among the changes, Major General David Ketter was promoted to Lieutenant General and appointed Commander Kenya Army, replacing Lieutenant General David Tarus, who was redeployed to the National Defence University-Kenya as Vice Chancellor.
Ruto also named Major General Bernard Waliaula as Commander Kenya Air Force, following the retirement of Major General Fatuma Ahmed after 42 years of service.
