Saba Saba protest death toll rises to 31

Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) expressed sympathy for the victims and families affected by the violence, sending out messages of condolence and support.

The number of people killed during the June 7, 2025, Saba Saba demonstrations has risen to 31, according to the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), which issued a fresh update on Tuesday evening.

According to KHRC, the human rights situation linked to the nationwide protests remains concerning, with 107 people injured, two cases of enforced disappearances reported, and 532 arrests recorded as of July 8, 2025, at 7:00 pm.

The Commission also noted destruction of property, although it said the total value of the losses remained unknown.

“The Commission is still actively monitoring and following up on all reports and incidents related to the 7th July, 2025, Saba Saba demonstrations across the country,” KHRC Vice Chairperson Raymond Nyeris said.

KHRC condemned all human rights violations and called for accountability from all parties involved, including members of the police service, civilians and other relevant stakeholders.

“We strongly condemn all human rights violations and urge accountability from all responsible parties, including police, civilians and all other stakeholders,” the Commission said.

The human rights body also expressed sympathy for the victims and families affected by the violence, sending out messages of condolence and support.

“We once again send our message of condolence to those who lost their loved ones and wish a quick recovery to those nursing injuries,” Nyeris added.

KHRC further appealed to members of the public who may have information or human rights-related complaints linked to the demonstrations to reach out through their official channels.
