Key suspect arrested in murder of 20-year-old Faith Kemunto

The suspect, Gideon Angisa, 22, was arraigned at the Nyamira Law Courts, where detectives were granted a 21-day custodial order as investigations continue.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed the arrest of a key suspect in the murder of 20-year-old Faith Kemunto.

Kemunto was set to join Machakos University next month before her disappearance and tragic death in July this year.

The suspect, Gideon Angisa, 22, was arraigned at Nyamira Law Courts on Friday, where detectives were granted a 21-day custodial order as investigations continue.

Angisa was arraigned alongside his co-accused, Vinic Kemunto, who is alleged to have hosted him at a hideout in Nairobi.

According to the DCI, Kemunto travelled from her home in Maosi village, Nyamira County, on July 27, 2025, to meet her boyfriend, Angisa, and was never seen alive again.

Her disappearance prompted her family to report the matter at Nyamuri Police Station. Despite initial efforts, the search for Kemunto and Angisa yielded no positive results.

Earlier this week, Kemunto’s family received a strange message from Angisa, the key suspect, revealing the location of her burial site.

Following an exhumation order by Nyamira Law Courts, her remains were recovered from a shallow roadside grave on Friday.

According to investigators, Angisa fled to Huruma Estate in Nairobi, where he had been holed up before being apprehended by detectives.

"Upon his arrest, he was found in possession of Kemunto's mobile phone. He was escorted to Nyamira and is currently held at Ekerenyo Police Station," said the DCI.

Both Kemunto and Angisa were due to start university this week.
