UN commission says Israel is committing genocide in Gaza

A UN Commission of Inquiry has concluded that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza.

Investigators also said top Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Isaac Herzog and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, had incited acts of genocide.

To back up the finding, the report cites the scale of the killings in Gaza, aid blockages, forced displacement and the destruction of a fertility clinic.

The world's leading association of genocide scholars and several rights groups had also reached the same conclusion.

"Genocide is occurring in Gaza," said Navi Pillay, head of the Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory and a former International Criminal Court judge.

"The responsibility for these atrocity crimes lies with Israeli authorities at the highest echelons who have orchestrated a genocidal campaign for almost two years now with the specific intent to destroy the Palestinian group in Gaza."

Israel has long accused the UN rights commission of bias.
