KANU Youth Congress denounce Ruto-Moi pact, say deal unilateral
Speaking at the party headquarters in Nairobi, the youth argued that no alliance or coalition can save the regime that violates constitutional governance and undermines the rule of law.
The Kenya African National Union's Youth Congress has distanced itself from the newfound partnership between its party leader, Gideon Moi and President William Ruto.

Led by Chairperson Shanice Chibeka Matara and Secretary Meshack Kiprotich, the Congress on Tuesday insisted that Ruto's government should prioritise serving the people's interests.
Speaking at the party headquarters in Nairobi, the youth argued that no alliance or coalition can save a regime that violates constitutional governance and undermines the rule of law.
"Our values and ideologies do not align with the ongoing abductions, enforced disappearances, human rights abuses, corruption, and disregard for the rule of law. We stand firmly for the promotion of democracy, rule of law, and institutional independence," said Kiprotich.
They called on the government to urgently address the health sector crisis, improve and make education affordable and accessible, uphold the rule of law, and end abductions and disappearances of government critics.
"We call upon the government to end the hypocrisy and focus on the people's immediate needs. Simply consolidating the political class under a broad-based government is both fallacious and akin to the kicks of a dying horse," Matara urged.
The youths stressed the need for effective governance systems, revived social services, and fair employment opportunities for the country's jobless youth.
The alliance between Gideon Moi and President Ruto has created unease in former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's camp ahead of the 2027 election.
Reacting to the deal, Gachagua accused Ruto of deliberately seeking to weaken Mt. Kenya’s political and economic influence through division.
The Democracy for Citizens Party leader claimed the unity deal with Moi was a strategic move to consolidate support from the Rift Valley while isolating critics in Mt Kenya ahead of the 2027 elections.
President Ruto, however, stated the alliance was intended to promote national cohesion and reduce political tensions before 2027.
Under the deal, Moi's KANU party joins Ruto's broad-based government, and Moi has withdrawn from the Baringo senatorial race.
