Where is my daughter? Eastleigh woman seeks help as teen goes missing from school

Sumeya's mother, Fartun Isman, has appealed for help, saying her main concern is to be reunited with her daughter.

Sumeya Abdirahman, a 17-year-old student, has been missing since Sunday after reportedly leaving her boarding school in Athi River at around 2 pm. The family received a call from the school later that evening informing them of her absence.

Sumeya's uncle, Fuad Abdirahman, told Eastleigh Voice that the family was unable to travel to the school immediately due to the distance between their Eastleigh home and the institution. They visited the school early Monday morning to inquire about her disappearance.

According to Fuad, the family was dissatisfied with the school's explanation of the circumstances under which Sumeya left. The case was subsequently reported to Athi River Police Station, where an investigation was initiated.

"We do not understand how a young girl could walk out from school just like that. She was a Form Two student," Fuad said.

He also mentioned that this was Sumeya's first time attending a boarding school and that she had only been there for one month.

Sumeya's mother, Fartun Isman, has appealed for help, saying her main concern is to be reunited with her daughter.

Speaking to Eastleigh Voice, the mother who lives in Eastleigh's Fifth Street, described Sumeya as a reserved and hardworking girl both at home and in school.

"All I want is to reunite with my daughter. I am so worried, and all my hopes are with the police," Fartun said.

Fuad clarified that Sumeya does not have any relatives in Nairobi other than her immediate family and did not have a phone at the time of her disappearance. The family remains hopeful for her safe return.

The case has raised concerns as it comes amidst reports of increasing cases of disappearances in Kenya.

President William Ruto has severally pledged to address these incidents but cases are still on the increase. The family is urging authorities to act swiftly to find Sumeya and ensure her safety.
