The detectives recovered several bags of milk powder each weighing 25kg.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) on Friday confiscated different brands of contraband milk powder worth Sh1,650,000.

In an operation conducted in a Mombasa wholesale shop, the detectives recovered 41 and 25 bags of full cream milk powder each weighing 25kg.

"Jointly with officers from the Kenya Dairy Board and Kenya Revenue Authority, they conducted a search at the said shop where the products were recovered," the DCI said.

According to the detectives, KRA officials estimated a taxable value of Sh1,650,000 on the products, which have since been taken as exhibits at the KRA Changamwe warehouse.

The officers also noted that one suspect alleged to be the proprietor of the shop was arrested.

"Upon interrogations, the suspect claimed to have acquired the consignment from an accomplice, whose warehouse is located in Shimanzi, Mombasa," the DCI said.

DCI added that the accomplice had been arrested during an earlier operation in Nairobi, and investigations are ongoing to trace his Mombasa warehouse for inspection of the stored products.

This comes after officers on Thursday recovered contraband milk worth Sh3 million in Embakasi, Nairobi.

The confiscated milk included over 10,000 tins of various milk products from Saudi Arabia.

Two suspects with contraband milk products from Malaysia were also arrested and processed for arraignment.

The seizures were made just a few days after other milk products estimated at Sh10 million were recovered in Eastleigh and seven suspects were arrested and subsequently charged.
