"The newly reported cases include three from Nakuru County and two from Mombasa County. Nakuru remains the hardest-hit county, with a total of nine cases, followed by Mombasa with six. Other affected counties include Kajiado (2), Bungoma (2), Nairobi (2), and one case each in Taita Taveta, Busia, Kiambu, Makueni, Kericho, Uasin Gishu, and Kilifi, " read the statement.
As of now, eight individuals are receiving medical attention, two are in self-isolation, and 17 have fully recovered. Sadly, one fatality has been recorded since the outbreak began.
The Ministry also provided an update on contact tracing, a critical aspect of containment efforts.
"A total of 204 contacts have been identified, of whom 147 have completed the required 21-day follow-up. Seven contacts have tested positive, and 50 remain under active monitoring," noted the Ministry.
Since the outbreak's onset in July this year, 2,207,715 travellers have been screened at Points of Entry (POE) across the country.
The National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) has tested 322 samples, yielding 28 positive results, 292 negative results, and two pending outcomes.
The Ministry emphasised its commitment to collaboration with county governments and stakeholders to address the outbreak effectively.
"Mpox is a preventable disease if proper measures are followed. We urge Kenyans to remain vigilant and adhere to the guidelines issued by health authorities to curb the spread," the Ministry stated.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to transparency, pledging to provide regular updates on the situation. It further encouraged citizens to seek accurate information from official sources to avoid misinformation.
Kenyans are urged to remain alert, report any suspected symptoms, and support health officials in their efforts to manage the outbreak.
