Two missing as floods sweep away vehicle in Isiolo County

In Soko Mjinga, more than 200 families have been displaced due to the rising water levels.
Two people are still missing after a vehicle was swept away by floods on the evening of Friday, April 18, in Isiolo County.
The search for them is currently underway as police and local rescuers continue combing the area near the KMC Bridge where the incident happened.

The vehicle, a Toyota Prado with registration number KCC 242N, was travelling from the Kipsing area to Isiolo town when the incident occurred.
According to reports, the car belonged to Oldonyiro Member of County Assembly (MCA) David Lemantile, although he was not among those on board.
Lemantile confirmed that three individuals were inside the car at the time: driver Paul Gitonga, his 23-year-old son Rajuel Lemantile, and 22-year-old Boniface Muriungi.
The vehicle was overpowered by the strong floodwaters as it attempted to cross the KMC Bridge.
Isiolo Police officers who visited the site stated that the floods carried the car for nearly two kilometres before it was found badly wrecked.
Only one of the three passengers managed to survive.
Boniface Muriungi managed to escape by climbing out of the car window. The other two, including the MCA’s son and the driver, remain unaccounted for.
Meanwhile, the heavy rains that caused the flooding have affected several areas in Isiolo County.
