Isiolo leaders ask Ruto to discipline officials fueling political unrest in the county

The leaders demanded that Ruto crack down on the individuals responsible for the growing tensions, warning that continued silence from the top leadership could embolden those destabilising the county.
Isiolo leaders have called on President William Ruto to take firm action against top state officials and politicians from neighbouring counties who they claim are interfering with local governance and inciting political unrest in the county.
Led by Woman Representative Mumina Bonaya and former Governor Godana Doyo, the leaders addressing the media on Monday said the continued interference by external forces was threatening peace and unity in Isiolo, and could lead to serious divisions if not addressed urgently.

Mumina appealed to the President to discipline government appointees and politicians who have allegedly abandoned their national duties to focus on destabilising Isiolo.
“These are people appointed by the President, and we thank him. But unfortunately, they are not doing their job. They are busy sponsoring impeachment efforts and political chaos in Isiolo,” she said..
She named three State Officials, a Governor and a Senator, as some of those allegedly involved in sponsoring political division in Isiolo.
Mumina said the officials had taken sides in Isiolo’s local politics and were misusing their positions to support divisive efforts, including the failed impeachment motion against Governor Abdi Guyo.
“We will not allow our people to be incited against each other. Isiolo is home to all 42 tribes. We will not fight because of a few individuals with tribal interests. We will maintain peace and follow the law,” she added.
The leaders demanded that Ruto crack down on the individuals responsible for the growing tensions, warning that continued silence from the top leadership could embolden those destabilising the county.
“President Ruto must call them to order. We are asking him to remind them that their mandate is to serve Kenyans, not their tribal interests,” said former Governor Godana.

The press briefing, which brought together current and former leaders, community professionals, and political stakeholders, also addressed claims that Isiolo was pulling away from the Kenya Kwanza administration.
County Assembly Speaker Abdullahi Banticha dismissed those claims, saying the Borana community and Isiolo residents remain solidly behind President Ruto’s leadership.
“I want to assure the President that the Borana community, led by Governor Guyo, Saku MP Dido Rasso, and former Governor Hussein Dado, is with him,” said Speaker Abdullahi.
Mumina also raised concern over UDM’s alleged involvement in county matters, accusing the party of trying to force its way into Isiolo politics despite local support for the ruling UDA.
“You can’t force us to be in UDM. You can’t impeach our governor because we don’t want to join your party,” she said.
She claimed that UDM sponsored MCAs who were away from the county just before the impeachment motion and even paid their bills and other expenses. She also said nominated MCAs who supported reconciliation with the governor were threatened with expulsion.
“They were taking care of their bills, their upkeep—everything. That is shameful for a party that claims to have a national outlook,” she said.
The MP alleged that a powerful Governor from one of the North Eastern counties was behind the growing tension in Isiolo, saying he must explain his interest in the county.
“I know what his interest is in Isiolo. He is still involved today, sponsoring chaos in our county. He must come out and tell us what his intentions are,” she said.
Former Isiolo South MP Abdi Koropu, Prasol Consult MD Abduba Molu Ido, Abdi Nyabure, and other professionals from Isiolo also attended the press conference.
